As a specialist in pediatric behavior, I’m here to share key insights that can help you and your young person empower, adapt, and thrive. Here’s what you need to know-
I specialize in addressing pediatric problem behaviors, with extensive experience supporting families of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
When it comes to medically necessary Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), here are four essential things to keep in mind.
1️⃣ ABA is Not A Cure.
ABA is a tool, not a solution for everything. It’s designed to help individuals build meaningful skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and improve their quality of life. While it can lead to significant progress, it’s important to approach ABA with realistic expectations.
2️⃣ ABA Therapy Is A Choice.
Choosing ABA therapy is a personal decision that depends on the unique needs and values of the family and the individual. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, and families should feel empowered to make choices that align with their goals and priorities.
3️⃣ ABA Therapy Has It's Pros and Cons.
Like any intervention, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) has its strengths and limitations. Understanding both sides helps families make informed decisions about whether ABA is right for them.
Some Pros: Evidence-based strategies, individualized programming, and measurable progress.
Some Cons: Time-intensive, varying quality of practitioners, and possible misconceptions about its purpose..
4️⃣ ABA Therapy Is For The Entire Family.
ABA isn’t just about the individual receiving services—it’s a collaborative process that involves the entire family. Parents, siblings, and caregivers play an active role in creating a supportive environment for lasting change. By learning strategies to reinforce positive behaviors and address challenges, families can strengthen their connection and work together toward meaningful progress.
